Stop Chasing Power, Start Using It đź‘‘

Greetings!

Have you ever caught yourself thinking, "I'm not strong enough," or wishing you were more powerful?

Maybe even wondering, "Why am I so sensitive?" These thoughts have a way of making us feel small, like we're missing something essential.

At some point, we learn that success is tied to power. We see it all around us—those with political sway or physical strength seem to control outcomes.

And sure, there’s truth to that. Power, in its most visible forms, can shape the world.

But here’s the thing—this “outer power” is fleeting. No matter how strong or influential someone is, it’s temporary. One day, it all slips away.

But that’s not the only kind of power we can rely on.

There’s another kind of power, one we all have access to.

I like to call it "true power."

It’s the kind of power that doesn’t fade and can transform who we are, giving us success that lasts beyond this life.

Let's explore the idea of true power through the Sufi Comic "What Makes a Man Rich?"

Art by Charbak Dipta

"He has succeeded who purifies it (the soul), and he has failed who instills it with corruption."
Quran (91:9-10)

“True power” isn’t about controlling others. It’s about having the freedom to make conscious choices.

Imagine you’re faced with a serious challenge:

  • a tough illness

  • the death of someone dear

  • a financial loss.

It’s completely natural to feel scared or overwhelmed. But even in such moments, you have a choice. You can choose patience, find resilience within, and let gratitude guide you.

Imagine how empowering that could be.

Even if we don’t hold much outer power—whether physical or social—it doesn’t mean we’re powerless.

The very fact that we’re alive, that we have a soul, means we’ve been given “true power”—the ability to choose how we respond, to act consciously.

So next time those thoughts creep in, the ones that tell you you're not strong enough, remind yourself: You have "true power." And that’s something no one can take away from you.
